Short version

Mathias Reumert (b. 1980) is a Danish percussionist, conductor, arranger, and leader of the crossover ensemble Ekkozone. As a soloist he has performed extensively in both Europe and USA, and has worked closely together with Jonathan Harvey, Roger Reynolds, Pierre Jodlowski, Per NørgĂĄrd, and Poul Ruders on these composers’ major solo percussion works.

Early in his career, Reumert received 1st Prizes at three major music competitions, including the Gaudeamus Interpreters’ Competition in Amsterdam. In 2010, the duo Reumert/Hildebrandt created the music show ’Ein Trommelspiel’, which has since been staged at three Danish theaters as well as at the Borusan Music House in Istanbul and the Meyerhold Theatre in Moscow.

In 2013, Mathias Reumert formed the crossover ensemble Ekkozone. He is featured as soloist and recently as conductor on several CDs out on Dacapo Records.
His DVD entitled ’Solo’ was released by the label Metier in September 2015. That year he was awarded the Prize of the Danish Music Critics.

Early in his career Reumert received 1st Prizes at three competitions: Councours International de Vibraphone 2002 (with a jury consisting of, among others, Dave Samuels, Jean Geoffrey, Emmanuel SĂ©journĂ©, and Philippe Hurel); the soloist competition at Percussive Arts Society International Convention 2004: and finally the Gaudeamus Interpreters’ Competition 2007 – the most important competition for instrumentalists, singers and ensembles of contemporary music.

In 2010, the duo Reumert/Hildebrandt created the music show ’Ein Trommelspiel’, which has since been staged at three Danish theaters as well as at the Borusan Music House in Istanbul and the Meyerhold Theatre in Moscow.

In 2013, Reumert formed EKKOZONE, which specializes in the classical avantgarde, minimalism, and ”cross-over”. He is also a member of Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen, PACE Percussion Trio, Cph Marimba Duo, and The Suoni Ensemble. (While a student he was a member of accordionist James Crabb’s quintet and the California-based ensemble red fish blue fish).

He studied with Gert Mortensen at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, and with Steven Schick at University of California, San Diego.
