MATHIAS REUMERT (b. 1980) is a Danish percussionist and music theatre performer. As soloist he has performed throughout Europe and in many parts of the Americas, and has given the premieres of works by several European and US composers. He studied with Steven Schick at the University of California, San Diego, and with Gert Mortensen at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
Reumert received 1st Prize at the International Gaudeamus Interpreters’ Competition 2007 in Amsterdam, Holland. In 2011 he received the Danish Arts Council’s Den unge elite grant. His recording of Poul Ruders’ concerto for percussion and orchestra, Monodrama, is released by DACAPO Records, to critical acclaim in the New York Times and elsewhere. ClassicsToday.com gave the CD the highest possible rating – “[There is] no better introduction to Ruders’ music than this appealing new disc”.
In 2010, Mathias Reumert and David Hildebrandt created and gave the premiere of the theatre show Ein Trommelspiel in Copenhagen. Since then the show has been staged at Borusan Music House (Istanbul) and Meyerhold Theatre (Moscow).
Reumert and Hildebrandt are also members of the PACE Percussion Trio, which opened the 2002 FIFA Football World Cup of Soccer concert in Seoul, Korea. PACE has collaborated with several acclaimed composers, jazz- and electronica artists.
